1: What is your OC’s human name and which country/city/state does it represent?
Roshanak (or Roxana) Amirpour/Abyaneh, Iran
2: What is that character’s personality and how does it correspond to the country you wish to roleplay?
A very, very old-fashioned girl. So much so that the dialect of Farsi spoken in her house is archaic and completely outdated elsewhere in Iran. Anthropologists love her because the only thing about her that’s changed in thousands of years is that she converted from a Zoroastrian to a Muslim. Despite pressure from the government, she stubbornly clings to her traditional clothes and old way of living—exactly how old is difficult to convey to anyone living in a modern society. Think of the world of Jesus’s time. She is basically still living like that, minus the miracles and crucifixion.
Because of this, she is not privy to anything that goes on or has gone on outside of her little village that has not been relayed to her directly from visitors. Modern technology, history (both past and on-going), geography, etc etc etc, is all, for the most part, unknown to her. Her resulting ‘simple farm-girl’ kind of personality is even further emphasized by her very broken English—though, upon speaking to her in Farsi, you’ll find that she’s quite eloquent in her mother tongue. So much so that she can go into lengthy rants when riled up into a passion. In short, she’s uneducated, but not stupid, per say.
Can commonly be seen eating tokhmeh (roasted seeds), which any Iranian will tell you is as addictive as crack cocaine.
3: What are their relationships with other countries?
She likes almost everyone but her own race. Period.
4a: How much do you know about the history of your character? Give us a little backstory on him/her.
Unfortunately, there does not seem to be a lot of actual history on this place. All I can assume is that it was never a particularly important village until recently.
Nowadays, it’s heavily advertised as a tourist destination. The buildings are heralded as a special example of human adaptation to nature; they’re all made of red clay, and are stacked on the side of a mountain in a way similar to a staircase (so the roof of one person’s house would be the courtyard of the person above them). In addition, stepping into the village is literally taking a step back in time, as the culture and traditions of the place have all but been perfectly preserved over the centuries.
Tourism to her is a double-edged sword. She enjoys having visitors from foreign countries (guests are ‘gifts of God’ in Iranian culture), and is hospitable to them. But a large number of her tourists are from Iran itself, and she rather gives them the cold shoulder, feeling like they are intruding upon her lifestyle to gawk at her. In addition, she feels like Iran as a whole has sold her out for the sake of tourist revenue.
As of 2005, she’s agreed to allow archeological excavations to be undertaken at her house for the first time. When she’s not doing daily chores, she can usually be found selling fresh fruits and nuts to visitors.
4b: What's their appearance? Please provide either a detailed description or a picture. Pictures are preferred if possible, but only one that is self-made.:
Stands at 4'10". She refuses to wear the uniform (the same way that she’s been refusing the Iranian government’s complaints about her clothes all these years), under the excuse that it’s ‘against her religion’. I forgot to draw it, but she also wears the key to her house around her neck… It’s about half a foot long and carved from wood. :I
4c: How old are they/What year are they(freshman, sophomore,etc)?
unknown (younger than Arash, so maybe seventeen or so)/freshman
5: How active do you think you can be?
Ifeellikeabolishingthisquestion.
6: So you’re new here! How do you find your way around the campus, do you ask someone for directions or try to figure it out yourself?
Where I go? Where I am? Where I go? /asking random people
7: You have several projects due! Do you get started working on them right away?
I work now, herd animal, cook—what? No farm…? H-how can be? My donkey okay??
8: Some girl/guy’s trying to hit on you! How do you react?
Where my donkey?? SHE DEAD? /weep
9: Uh oh! You accidentally broke a very prized trophy that the school had won! What do you do?!
What this is, I don’t know. /unconcerned
10: You see a student with a broken leg?! What do you do?
/prays for Allah to fix it, waits expectantly
11: A fight breaks out in the quad! How do you react?
(to the observers) You want buy fruits? Tokhmeh?
12: It’s PE time! Are you good with sports and athletics?
‘Peh eh’? What, what is this, I don’t…
13: A big test is coming up! Do you prepare or do you sack studying?
WHO IS FEED MY DONKEY--/sob
14: Someone is stalking you in the hallways! Who is it, and how do you react?
Want tea? Buy a window? From wood, I make, very nice. Hand-carve. /is so used to being watched
15: What do you want to major and why?
--But if buy this window, no use to you. Only fit to house Irani. But pretty to have. You undahrstand?
16: Any questions?
